Make Up And Hair (MUAH) - The Balm Time Balm Concealer

by - January 09, 2014

Now, here's a real badass concealer!

Just so you know, I am so picky when it comes to this life-saver.  I have tried several from different brands and whenever I run out of concealer, I always make sure to do some research first before heading to makeup stores.  This time, I bought Time Balm from one of my fave brands, The Balm.

You can find The Balm in Beauty Bar shops nationwide.

Interesting logo, right?

It's a bit expensive, but with 7.5g, probably it will last 3 to 4 months, depending on your usage.

Actually, this concealer is just one of The Balm's line, Time Balm.  They also have a foundation, and primer.

Check out the ingredients.

I picked Light/Medium and I'll show you the swatch later.  They don't sell all shades here in PH, but here's the complete set.  They have lighter than light for the "fairest of them all" and after dark as well.

According to the description online, this is an anti-wrinkle concealer that covers dark circles and imperfections while protecting the skin from environmental stresses.  It also contains Vitamin A, C, E, soybean oil, panthenol, linoleic acid and phospholipids for that long lasting, stunning look.

It comes with a small sponge that fits the pot.  I don't use it though because it's a lot easier to blend using a finger.  Opening and closing the lid is also super easy even if it's tiny.

Cream concealers might seem a little intimidating at first because application sometimes requires a lot of practice.  On the other hand, it's the best in terms of coverage.

Additionally, they usually come in pots or sticks and that means, you have to pick up or sweep the product directly on your face.  They are not the most hygienic, but I have no problem with that.

My reaction when I first tried it?  Gaaaah!  It's indeed soft!  The consistency is absolutely perfect.

Here's the swatch.  It looks thick, right?  But believe me, blending is a piece of cake.

I haven't tried applying with the sponge.  Brush is okay though.

Let me show you the before and after photos.  (oh my, you'll see my scary bare face again!)

BEFORE | AFTER

Here's how it looks like when blended.  My tip: DAB it gently instead of sweeping back and forth.  This will distribute the product evenly.

Left photo below shows my zero-makeup look A.K.A. "walking dead" look.  On the right photo, I have 2 layers of concealer around my eyes, a very little amount of my BB cream, thin layer of my translucent powder (from The Balm too) as face makeup.

What I love about it:
  • Packaging (no troubles opening and closing; fits perfectly in my kit)
  • Smooth consistency (like icing!)
  • Not chalky
  • Easy to blend using fingers and brush (doesn't pull your delicate eye area)
  • Doesn't feel heavy/thick
  • Medium to heavy coverage
  • Completely diminishes the appearance of dark circles
  • Matte finish - suitable for oily skin
  • Covers fine lines
  • Has properties that protect/benefit the skin (but I haven't noticed any results yet)
  • Matches my complexion well
  • Highlights
  • Lasts up to 6 hours (with powder)
  • Conceals blemishes, redness and stubborn pores
Watch outs:
  • Over 500 pesos damage
  • Sponge that comes with it is not that useful
  • Smells like vegetable oil sometimes (but doesn't stay)
  • Settles into fine lines after couple of hours
  • If you have oily skin, retouch is needed (but I'm lazy so I'll skip this HAHA!)
  • Don't apply too much powder to avoid caking
  • No powers over puffy eye bags (but fights dark circles like a superhero)
  • For extra dry skin, use a primer or moisturizer first

I'd love to re-purchase this just like my Sexy Mama, but I have blogger duties so expect another brand next time.  HAHA! *wink

If you have a tough problem with your dark circles, Time Balm is your best friend!  I also recommend this to ladies who want to give cream concealers a try.  Very nice to start with because you'll have no trouble blending.  It won't give you a hard time.  I swear.

Go ahead and try!  Let me know what you think about this in the comments below. :)

You can find The Balm and many more brands on Beauty Bar's website.

Good luck!
