Make Up And Hair (MUAH) - The Face Shop Bye Bye Dark Circle Concealer

by - August 07, 2014

Four more reviews to go after this one.  Argh!  So many backlogs!  #startingtopanic  Here's the 4th product included in my Korean cosmetics haul.  Don't worry, I can still remember that I owe you the dry shampoo tutorial.  Aside from that, I still have a couple of products to feature here and you'll see them in my Just In post of the week.

So, I have here a special brush pen.  It's like my weapon against a dull, zombie-like face.  With just one stroke, I can conceal those dark circles, making me look more awake.

Name of the product?  Very straightforward and assertive.  Bye Bye Dark Circle concealer by The Face Shop.  This is included in their Lovely Me:Ex line.  The owl logo looks really cute.

After saying goodbye to my cream concealer, I decided to switch back to liquid.  Instead of the usual "wand and bottle" type of packaging, I chose this brush pen.  Actually, I had no idea if it would make much of a difference in terms of application.  I also wasn't sure if I could use the brush for blending or similar to the usual applicator, if it's there just to transfer the product onto skin.

Nevertheless, I don't have any problem with the pen itself.  The lid is secure, the size is just right and the bottom part works fine.

The synthetic brush looks like this. The bristles are soft and don't fall off.

At first use, I got to push the end several times just to dispense the product.  After that, 2-3 would do.

The problem with this type of packaging is that, if there's an excess product, it's either you insist on putting that on your face, or keep it there and let it dry or stick to the cap.  Good thing, it doesn't dry out very fast and the brush doesn't hit the lid when it's closed.  But still, it's better to dispense a little amount every time, than waste it.

It's best feature is the SPF.  Yep, concealer with SPF 30!  #somuchwin  It's like concealing those dark circles and at the same time protecting the sensitive skin around the eyes from the harmful Mr. Sun.

It only comes in one shade.  The color looks natural though and it might match light to medium skin tone.

When I first saw the swatch, I felt a bit unsure because it looks very bright.

The consistency is very creamy, but still manageable when it comes to blending.  I usually use my fingers, but a blending brush works great as well.

It turned out that the applicator will never blend the concealer evenly.  Don't waste your time.  Don't even try it.  Well, on the second thought, maybe it can still work.  Hmmm... yes.  But most likely, you'll spend an hour or so.  HAHA!

before | after

Here are the before and after photos.  Gaaah!  Puffy eye bags!

What I love about it:
  • very handy
  • high-quality packaging
  • has SPF 30
  • consistency - I like the fact that it's creamy rather than watery for a liquid concealer
  • no annoying scent - smells like regular liquid foundation
  • doesn't cake
  • brightens the under eyes
  • reduces the appearance of dark circles
  • no irritation
  • easy to blend

before | after

Watch-outs:
  • light coverage
  • no shade selection
  • sometimes settles into fine lines - better put a moisturizer prior and don't put on too much powder
  • not long lasting

My eye bags are still noticeable (and I've already accepted that fact HAHA!) but this product makes them appear brighter (not just because of the light from the right side, I promise!).

I also apply some on the nose and cheeks to minimize the appearance of pores.

Overall, I like this pen concealer.  It does it's job and it's very convenient to use, though again, the coverage is light.  But still, try it and see if it will work for you.
