Make Up And Hair (MUAH) - How to Use Dry Shampoo

by - August 10, 2014

As promised, here's part 2 of my dry shampoo post which will show you how I use it and what's the effect compared when washing your hair.  If you missed part 1, click here.

When to use it:

I know most of you will never ever consider ditching your regular shampoo.  Main reason I could think of is that, you won't survive a day with unwashed hair, more so if it's all greasy.  And I know you won't believe me if I say that by skipping that, you're doing your hair a great favor.

Here's a fact (and I always say this), shampooing daily can damage and dry out your hair.  If dry shampoo still cannot convince you, try using conditioner alone.

I only use dry shampoo when:

  • I washed my hair the day before and I didn't go out, didn't expose it to dirt and I didn't sweat too much.
  • I washed my hair the night before.
  • I used conditioner and I didn't like the texture of my hair - no volume.

How to use it:

Mine is in powder form and it tends to be very messy.  Some will reach my forehead and neck.  Sometimes, my ears.  The most important part is to rub it to spread the product all over the scalp.

1) I use a hair spray first but this is optional.  I'm using Pantene's Root Lift Mist for that extra bounce and volume.  It also slightly cleanses the hair and it will help absorb the powder as well.

2) Section the hair and directly put the powder on the scalp.  Rub it thoroughly.

3) At this point, you should already notice the effect.  Your hair will have more body and it won't appear too flat from the top.

4) Here's an optional step again, hair iron.  To add more volume in case you're not yet satisfied, lift the hair from the roots using a straightener.  Do not drag it all the way down.

If you're in the mood for some styling, curl your hair.  If you do not have the tools, here's a trick.  Tie your hair in a bun.  After a few hours, you'll have beautiful soft waves.

What's the effect:
  • Volume and body
  • The ends don't look dry
  • Luscious looking hair
  • Lesser frizz
  • Easier to style
  • Hair will become more manageable
  • No rough texture
  • Smoother and softer hair
  • Absorbs the natural oil, not stripping it out
  • Perfect for those who have thin and limp hair

Watch-out when using powder shampoo:
  • If you put on too much and don't rub it thoroughly, it will appear like dandruff.
  • When you run your fingers through your hair, you'll feel that it's really powdery

Convinced?  :)

If you want flattering, va-va-boom hair, try this hair-o!  Trust me.  You'll still feel fresh... like "shower-fresh" even with a day-old hair.  Honestly, I prefer that than newly washed hair.

Next time, I'd look for a dry shampoo spray.  I also recommend it for first-timers 'cause it's easier and faster to apply.
