Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink in Ruler and Seductress

by - February 09, 2020

One lipstick formula that you should have in your stash is something that could last for hours.  Your everyday lippie could be anything, but for special occasions, the least thing you'd need is a lip color that wouldn't even survive a sip.

Of course, tints are the best option or something that would leave a stain but if you want that "lipstick effect" with extra toughness, check this out.

These are Maybelline's ink-like liquid lipsticks.  Superstay Matte Ink is like a counterpart of L'Oreal's Infallible Pro Matte.  They have similar formula - both highly pigmented, long-lasting liquid lipsticks.

Color

I picked up two shades.  Ruler is a flattering watermelon pink shade and Seductress is a nude pink color.  Both become a bit darker once they completely dry.

Ruler could be too loud for me so I prefer applying it with a brush just to kinda stain my lips.  If I wear it full, I make sure to pair it with light to no eyeshadow.

This shade appears differently in cool and warm lightings.

Finish & Formula

Matte Ink takes a while to dry.  It has very thick consistency yet silky and it is tacky, so if you hate liquid lipsticks that feel heavy, you might wanna stay away from these.  However, as they are intense in color, you could still make it work by applying a very thin layer.

As you can see above, Seductress looks a bit pasty towards the inside of the lips.  It's a common thing for nude liquid lipsticks.

The finish is obviously matte but it's the type that doesn't look crumbly.

Although strong, I still love the yummy cupcake-like scent.

Application

It comes with a pointed applicator with a hole in the middle that picks up product so you won't have to double-dip.  I find it easy to really fill in the lips and apply an even layer.

Lasting Power

Need I say more?  These won't be called as "ink" for no reason!

One thing to watch out though is the transfer.  There's also some fading especially in the middle part but only if you're like eating a greasy burger or slurping your favorite ramen.  😂

For comparison, here's how the two nudes from Maybelline Matte Ink and L'Oreal Pro Matte look like.  Nudist Pro Matte is more on the peachy side.

These might not be the most comfortable lipsticks but they don't disappoint when it comes to extended wear time.  Even taking them off is a chore.  You'd need a makeup remover to get rid of every patch.

I'm thinking of doing a "wear test" video to see which one would last longer after a meal or at least fade nicely.  What do you think?
