Last Christmas I gave you my heart (chareng) Eve, I was writing a similar blogpost back at home, alone, preoccupied with all of the should-have-beens and endless questioning.  I strongly felt sorry, for what happened and for other people I've caused pain to, but for the most part I felt sorry for myself, for the times I let myself down and for the times when I chose to give love when apparently, it's me who badly needed it.

Now, I'm at my new home, not alone and getting the words for this yearend post from my almost-recovered heart.  I'm still making my way through that love-yourself-first road though, and it's tough.  Believe me.  If you're on the same journey, I feel you.

The past 12 months were unsurprisingly nowhere near smooth and steady.  When 2018 unfolded, I knew things would be all about picking myself up.  And yes, the year also gave me a good beating.  It's like physically, financially, emotionally and mentally draining for me.  I even doubted myself and plenty of times, I thought of just taking the easy path back to my comfort zone.  I don't know what had gotten into me because here I am, I miraculously made it through the bumpy ride.

Of course, I won't let this year pass without taking a good look back and remind myself of things that I should be thankful for.

Let's wrap up 2018, shall we?

Miss Independent

Here's my ticket to adulthood.  Haha! 😊

Having your own place has its pros and cons.  I got the convenience back from daily commuting, but having to cook your own food, wash your clothes, do your groceries, clean, not to mention the most gruesome part of all - manage the bills became another horror story.  What made it even more hellish was the hassle from all of the repairs that had to be done in my unit.  Imagine having a clogged toilet, broken pipes, water leaks and cracked walls.  Nevertheless, I'm still looking forward to starting mini projects and making it cozy, much more like a home and not just some "sleepover" kind of place.

Not that super far...

It amazes me how songs can take you to pink skies then suddenly stab you in the chest.  Oh, LANY.

Thank you for the trust...

I want to thank Sephora, Fresh, Caronia and Althea team for letting me try their amazing products.  Their trust pushes me to work harder.

This year, I joined the Althea community and I became one of their Angels.  I could still remember the excitement when I received that awesome news.

ELYU

I didn't get to travel so much this year, which is understandable because my finances went crazy after I moved in.  I had a chance to go on a roadtrip though and that's a nice experience because I got to surf again.  Yay!

Life took another unexpected turn...

Just when I thought it was another closed door for me, the universe planned something else and gravitated me back to where I was one and a half years ago.  At first, I didn't know how to feel about everything, from leaving my new team at the point where workplace and work itself have been better to grabbing the opportunity I didn't know I would come across ever.  I admit, I felt scared and unsure.  Then, I was filled with gratitude because it finally came to me that it's a rare shot.  It took me some serious thinking and eventually, I took the leap.

That decision also brought me to another city back in July.  I got to meet some folks I was working with before and even though that Bangalore trip was short, the whole experience was still one for the books.  Too bad, I don't have much pictures to put into that book.  Hahahaha!  😝

Back to filming...

There's definitely a struggle whenever I try to juggle things and it just so happened that le blog was pushed all the way down my priority list.  For the past months, it has been so difficult to finish even one post a week, all the more make a video.  I took a long break from filming because my time management just got out of whack with all of the stuff I on my plate and I don't know, maybe I lost a bit of inspiration too.

I realized I just needed a little push and even if I'm still rusty at it, I'm so glad I managed to put up two this year!

To the beach...

Long weekends never felt this good.  We always look forward to no-alarm-clock days, last full shows and quick trips like this one.

Hoping for more sandy and salty moments next year!

So that's pretty much how my 2018 went.  A lot of adulting, braving through, few life-changing decisions and all about getting back on my feet after a hard stumble.  I gotta say, this has been one of the toughest years of my life.  It's like the universe was having a great time throwing problems my way.  Hahaha!  Nevertheless, I know I could trust the Awesome Guy up there.  To me, He seems like "I know you could handle this one, kid.  And this one too.  You got this."  And the most important part of what I think He thinks is - "learn from this."

So here it goes.

Anything worth having is worth fighting for.  However, if you feel like you're already losing yourself in the process, it's definitely okay to take a step back for a self-worth check.  Finding reasons to fight for the person, with the person is easy.  It's love and that's just how it works.  And if that's the case, finding reasons to love yourself first should be easy too and that hit me hard.

Some things end.  Some people go.  The worse part is, when they leave, they would sometimes choose not to answer your whys.  Then, you find yourself chasing answers you'd never get.  So I realized, maybe sometimes, we don't need closures.  We just have to move on.  Endings could be messy and undeniably painful, but forgiving yourself is key too.  That maybe, the only closure we need is the one we should have with ourself and that hit me hard.

You could never trust timing.  Life would sometimes play tricks on you.  You could meet a right person at a wrong time or get an opportunity when you're done wishing for it.  Life's timing sucks.  But I'd rather deal with bad circumstances than not taking that chance, not be given things I've prayed for or not meeting that person at all.  Timings are only wrong when we let it be wrong and that hit me hard.

Not all things in life would turn out how you expected them to be and that's okay.  As bad as it gets, you just have to keep moving.  It's more likely that you'll regret the risks you didn't take than the things you ended up doing and failed at and that hit me hard.

It puzzles me a bit how a lot of things could happened in a span of twelve months yet towards the end, it would feel like it just passed by so fast.  As a new year closes in, I would like to remind myself to accept the mistakes I've done, let go of what's been haunting me, bury the guilt and continuously grow as a person.  No amount of "dwelling on the past" would change what happened and it's pointless trying to fight for my reasons or tell the other side of the story if everyone has judged me already.  Better to leave all the bad feelings behind.  No turning back.

I'll welcome 2019 with hopes I've never had before, with a hand not ever wanting to let go (ayieee, char).  To bigger dreams, to harder laughs and more serious adulting (omaygad, I'm turning 30 next year).  Beating is over, 2018.  Hahaha!  😚

Cheers, good luck and dream on!  Happy new year, world!

So one day, a very hefty box arrived at our doorstep.  The moment I opened it, I saw 5 mini boxes containing nail polishes in every color I could think of.  There are spectrum of blues, reds, pink and even glittery ones which are perfect for the holidays.

The box marks the 50 colorful years of Caronia - a household name if we talk about nail polishes and nail care.  Each box represents a decade and the colors speak for it.

How thoughtful of them to let me try a wide collection of colors that they had released over the past five decades?  It's like the options are endless for every mood and occasion.

Psychedelic 70's

My top picks are Tahiti, Taupe and On-The-Go.  I love the vintage-y vibe.  These would perfectly match any boho outfit.

Vibrant 80's

This one features some metallic, glazed-like shades.

My top picks are Platinum and Bourrée.  The latter is what I used in the photo above - an autumn color.

Iconic 90's

I'm gonna be biased here because I'm a 90's baby.  Haha!  😆

It's hard to pick my blue and green if the choices are like these.  Anyway, I had to pick favorites so here they are - Bohemian, Blue Velvet and Avant.  This box also comes with blue and green glitters for that sparkle you'd need this holiday season.

Modern 2000's

Of course, Caronia also has millenial pinks.  😚

I'm not a fan of pink, but Chestnut and Carolina Peach still caught my eye.  I also have to mention Silver Platinum, a nail color everyone can casually wear.

Dynamic 2010's

This one also gave me a hard time because most of the colors are stunning!

I went for two neutrals and another frosted one - Golden Bronze, Rainbow Tan and 24k Gold.  The one at the left side is what I used on my ring and index finger in the photo below.

Keep things colorful with Caronia nail polishes!  Check them out on Instagram (@caroniaph) to see featured colors and to get an idea how you could be "extra" with some nail designs.  😚

If you have painted your nails with Caronia colors, upload a photo in this post.  I'd love to see them!

Heeeey!  Missed me?  Haha!  😗

I can't believe 2019 is just around the corner and there's only one month left to catch up on my 2018 goals.  Uploading another video is one, that's why I'm so happy I got to finish this despite of a hellish, busy few months.  December couldn't get any more hectic, so I needed to make sure I'd get to release this.

Imagine going on a mini-shopping spree.  You're excited AF, but couldn't open the box just yet because you wanted to cook a haul video and revive your channel.  Hahahah!  #patienceiskey 😂

Sooooo, here you go.  I hope you enjoy this unboxing with me.  It's longer than usual because I have a hefty box and a very special one containing the complete Petal Velvet line of Althea.  Sorry for the crappy audio though.  I hope it won't irritate you.  😙

I have a bunch of skincare products including 5 blackhead remover kits that I'm gonna test and do a Throwdown post about.  Spotted my 2 new lippies?

I can't wait to try Althea's newest product - Petal Velvet Sunaway.  They also released another shade of their very own loose powder few months ago.  I now have all three! 😚

If you wanna know more about the products, head over to Althea and start shopping!  As usual, expect a review of these here on le blog and on my Instagram (@ichipestano) soon!

Here's a short product review featuring The Balm's cheek palette that comes with 3 of the brand's bestselling blushes.  One of which can actually double up as a bronzer.  Such a great deal!

Deets!

Balm Springs is a mauve shade, perfect to pair with MLBB lippies.

Balm Beach is a lighter rosy blush which can be used to give a nice flush of color on the cheeks even when you're wearing a bold, dark lipstick.

Balm Desert works as a bronzer but it has some rosy tones to it so ladies with darker skin tones can also wear it as a blush.

All of them come in powder formula yet they do not feel chalky.  The color payoff is definitely there but obviously, Balm Beach can work best with lighter skin tones.

They are all long-wearing.  I don't need to re-apply unless I put on powder for touch-ups.

from left to right: Balm Desert, Balm Springs, Balm Beach

They are all matte blushes, no shimmer or glitter whatsoever.  I love that they put Balm Desert in this trio because it can be used for shading.  No need to bring another contour kit when you travel.  To match any of your eye makeup and lip color, this palette got you covered! 😗

Here, I used Balm Desert to lightly contour my cheeks and Balm Springs as my blush.  💕

So an hour ago, I was about to start another episode of The Haunting of Hill House, because hey, it's a Saturday night and it's really hard to find a reason not to procrastinate.  However, I thought it would be a complete waste of weekend if I ever I don't get to put up something so I opted to open a new tab and finish this thing.  Binge-watching will come later. 😚

Anyhoo, here's a Peripera lip tint from their Ink Velvet line.

I've tried two other variants already from the same brand and what's remarkable as I recall is the vibrant, long-lasting color.  Then, they came up with a new formula, far from their water-based ones and I got interested to try it.

As you can see, they still used the same Peri Ink packaging.  A cute bottle right there. 😊

Color

I got the shade Celeb Deep Rose, which I thought was a mauve, old rosy color, but it turned out to be like a muted red.  I actually checked other swatches online and they seem to be different from mine.  Nevertheless, the color payoff is amazing, which is not a surprise.

Application

The doe-foot applicator it comes with has a slanted shape and in good quality.  I can easily create gradient lips or apply it fully.

Like I said, it's very pigmented so if you're going for stained lips, do only a 2 to 3 dots then blend.  I also noticed that it transfers because it takes a few minutes to dry unlike water-based/gel lip tints.  Better if you start with small amount.

I also find it very forgiving when I use it as a blush.  It gives me enough time to fully blend it out and create a nice flush of color on my cheeks.

Formula & Finish

It has a sweet candy-ish scent and the consistency is mousse-like.  It also doesn't dry down to a matte finish unless you apply only a tiny amount and go for gradient lips.

As you can see in the swatch below when I did a full lip, the finish is more on the satin side.

gradient lips

I love the velvety formula and the fact that even if it's a mousse, it still feels nothing when you have it on.

Lasting Power

The product transfers when I have it full on, but my lips would stay stained for hours even after drinking or eating.  Well, unless it's something really greasy and I have to wipe my lips rigorously.  If it's fully dried, it won't budge but there's still some fading.

I expect no less when it comes to Peripera's lasting power, but the catch is, I also have to deal with the drying part.  😬

Overall, I still find it very reliable.  It works great as a cheek tint and a lip mousse.  I just wish I had picked a more toned-down shade, but for gradient lips, it's a nice color to use.

What do you think?

Happy Sunday, world!

Feeling productive even though I didn't get to film as planned.  Well, I still managed to do some serious cleaning and here, I also have a new post for y'all.

Remember the batch review I did back in August featuring some of the makeup products I've been trying out?  I told you there will be a skincare version of that and here it goes.

Cosrx AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner

Cosrx is one of my favorite Korean skincare brands.  I just love how straightforward their products are.  After finishing a bottle of their Blackhead Power Liquid (loved it), I felt like I needed to try more so I got another toner.

It's pretty much a typical daily toner that exfoliates the skin because of the AHA/BHA in it and at the same time, gives hydration.

I only use it during nighttime after cleansing part because during daytime, I use my Althea Primer Water and I know products with AHA/BHA should not be used if you're going to be exposed to too much sunlight unless you use a sunscreen, of course.

Instead of soaking a cotton pad, I prefer spritzing a generous amount and then patting my face.  It feels like water, it doesn't sting, it is fast-absorbing and it's not drying at all.  I believe there's no alcohol in the ingredient list.

Comparing it to my previous bottle, I'd say I like that more.  I haven't noticed the benefits unlike before when I was using the Blackhead Power Liquid.  This one's just "meh", but for those looking for alcohol-free everyday toner, this could still work for you.

Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash

This is one of the most gentle cleansers I've tried so far.  It lathers a bit (not too foamy) and it can remove grease but sadly, not makeup.  I think people who do not need to remove a lot of stuff from their face could enjoy this facial wash.

There's no scent and it doesn't make the skin too dry after use, so I think it's a good match for sensitive or dry skin.

The Saem Eco Earth Power Pink Sun Screen (440 php)

My non-negotiable when choosing a sunscreen is that, it should not be greasy.  For a greasy gal like me, the last thing I'd need is a product that would just create another oily mess on my face.

That's why I'm so happy I did find another sunscreen that not only isn't creating like a film of oil, but also feels like a normal moisturizer.  Another huge bonus is that, it doesn't give me those tiny bumps that I usually get when trying out sunscreens.  Perfection. 😍

I ain't scared of smothering this all over my face and neck because I know it's gonna be absorbed fast and would also create a moisturized base for my makeup.  It also doesn't have any strong fragrance, you know, like that usual sunblock scent that could get a little annoying sometimes.  Haha!  😏

In case I don't find something new to try similar to this one, I'll surely repurchase!

Wonde Ruci Cacao Brightening Mask

Have you ever tried something that smells incredibly delicious on your face, you want to eat it?  This one's a perfect example.

When I got this from an Althea Box wayback, I thought they gave me a sweet treat.  Hahaha! 😄

Apparently, this oh so yummy-looking/smelling chocolate is a mask.  I swear, it looks, smells and feels like a gooey chocolate that I would very much like to put on a cracker or something.

However, here's the bad news.  The first time I tried it, I got a few whiteheads after.  I freaked out a bit since I knew I had put a lot and when I said a lot, I went really heavy like I was putting chocolate filling on cake.  Hahaha!  That shouldn't be surprising though, because it's hard to resist something that smells this good!  😙

Also, there's a heating effect, so that's the part where you could tell it's working.

I'm not sure if I'd give it a second chance.  Maybe I'll try it on a small area first?  Or shall I just go for the cracker?  Hahaha! 😛

Half Moon Eyes Pink Fruity

This one, I have only tried once as well.  There's no breakout though unlike when I used the cacao mask, so I might continue to use this.

It is basically a clay mask capsule made of dragon fruit extract, which targets excess sebum and clogged pores.  It smells nice, gives a slight cooling effect and you could really see seed-like particles there.

That's it!  I think I've showed you all skincare products I have currently.  I still have a couple of new makeup stuff to talk about and in the coming weeks, I'll try to ramp up my lipstick reviews.

Have a great week ahead! 😘
